Beautiful, but time-consuming.Dec 30, 2009

I bought this stocking to make for my granddaughter's first Christmas. I made stockings for both of my children back in the 1980's. The finshed result of this stocking is absolutely beautiful but it probably took me 20+ hours to finish. It is so much more elaborate than the previous stockings that I did for my children. It is worth the time I put into it, but if you order this stocking, allow at least a few weeks to finish it.

I don't sew but wanted to create a felt stocking for my granddaughter as my mother had for my own daughter. As long as you follow the instructions closely and if you have hours to spare for hand-stitching, you too can succeed. Everything is labeled clearly, and each step taken according to the printed instructions will lead to a lovely outcome. Remember Paint by Numbers? Well, this is sewing by the numbers.

I picked this because it looked like a pretty girls stocking. I made one by dimensions for my son last year and wanted to make this one for my daughter. From now on I will only buy Dimensions, the directions for this one are horrible unless you have time to sit and make the whole thing in one setting. The dimensions one was so much easier to work on and set down to come back to. I am working on it and I will be able to complete it, but I don't think if I had not just done one last year I would be able to do this. Thankfully I still had the directions from the old one to show me the different stitches step by step. I had wanted to be able to send different parts to both my mom and mother in law, but the way this is set up that would be impossible. So I guess if you are up for a challenge then buy a bucilla kit, but if you want it to be a happy smooth experience buy dimensions!

Over the years I have made over 30 stockings from a Bucilla kit. The oldest stocking is 29 years old this Christmas & still is being used. The Bucilla kits are easy to work with & there is a good selection to choose from.

They have new selections every year.
I give the completed stockings as gifts every year and everyone loves them for years and years to come.
