Outdoor Benches | Home » » » » Oxford Garden Essex 4-Foot Shorea Bench | | | | | | | Description: | | The beautiful and classic Essex 4' Bench will make a wonderful seating statement where ever it is placed. The beautifully simple design includes thick and heavy legs and classic corner braces. The entire Essex line of benches and chairs have been designed to present a grand scale. Unlike any of our other styles, the Essex line is built of large 2 and 1/8" dimensional lumber. The increased scale has also been employed in the overall dimensions of the chair. Like all of our furniture, this chair is made of shorea, a teak family wood that is more dense and heavy than teak. Shorea requires no finishing and will not rot when left outdoors where rain and sun will damage other lesser quality woods. Left untreated, shorea will weather to a soft warm shade of gray similar to the weathering of teak. Sturdy mortise and tenon construction provides the highest quality joinery that will last for many years. Original color can be maintained by applying a seasonal coat of teak oil. | | | Features: | |

Exceeded ExpectationsNov 03, 2006
By Joanne It was a real gamble to order sight unseen, worry about putting together any part of it, and wonder about the quality.
The shipping company was superb in following complex delivery instructions. The product top-of-the-line. What we had to put together was easy. The product exceeded are already high expectations.

Sitting PrettyAug 20, 2009
By Mosey We are perfectionists, and this bench is perfect for us. It is a long-delayed present from my husband, and it was worth the wait. We replaced our pool, created a shade garden near the deep end, and researched to find the perfect bench for that garden. We ran into a little glitch while assembling it and received a prompt call back from Oxford, so customer service was stellar in our experience. Now the bench nestles into its fern and hosta setting as though it has always been there. It is sturdy, well-milled and attractive enough to deserve its focal point status. I sat on it this morning, drinking my coffee and reading the paper. We believe that the dense shorea wood and sturdy construction will allow us to enjoy our bench for years to come.

Almost perfect.Dec 07, 2009
By T. Havling It took me only 30 minutes to assemble. It went together with no problems although the instructions were incomplete. 2 wooden dowels are used on each corner brace as well. Also, I had to use a cordless drill/screwdriver for 4 of the 6 screws as I could not get them going by hand. There was a sticker on the seat to show you where the front was. The sticker was a pain to remove. On one of the pre-assembled ends, the arm does not sit flush onto the front post. You can also feel an edge on top of each arm from sloppy sanding. However, it is a very beautiful and sturdy bench. I love it in spite of the few flaws.
Nice and easy assemblyMay 07, 2013
By CTSteeler Went together with a little bit of patience. Instructions are worthless. However, l laid all the pieces out and fit together, that made the process go very smoothly. I needed to drill a few holes and went with teak oil. Took about 30 minutes to assemble and a few days to get the color I wanted with the oil.
All in all, for the price, I believe it was a bargain.
Very sturdy, great product.Apr 26, 2013
By Edouard Ter-Arsenian Bought 6 foot bench. It was very easy to assemble - my husband got it all together in about 30 min. Suprisingly it's very sturdy and comfortable. We covered it with Golden Care Teak Protector, that gave the unfinished wood a nice golden hue. Plus, it would protect the wood from the elements. Overall: I am very happy with my purchase.
