Storage Beds, King | Home » » » » » » Prepac Sonoma King Platform Storage Bed, Black | | | | | | | Description: | | Our King Platform Storage Beds combine extra large drawers for plenty of storage space with a slat support system that requires only a mattress. Wood slats are positioned lengthwise to distribute body weight evenly, minimize the amount of motion transfer and take the place of a box-spring. Metal braces under the slats provide additional stability. Underneath are 6 large storage drawers (20” depth) that run on smooth running metal drawer glides. Drawers open easily with finger pulls located at the bottom of drawer fronts and knobs have been eliminated to prevent bedclothes from catching. They are large enough to hold anything you need to store: linens, blankets, clothes, socks and even shoes are just a few ideas. Coordinate with the King Headboard and other Prepac bedroom furniture pieces. Overall bed height is 21” if used with an 8” thick mattress. Available in two attractive finishes: Black and Espresso overlay laminates. This product is made from composite woods with plywood slats. It ships flat-packed (in three cartons) and self-assembly is required. Detailed and easy-to-follow instructions are included. | | | Features: | |

No problems, love my bed!!Dec 08, 2010
By KMC I got this in Oct of 2009. It came in several boxes (2 or 3, can't remember). Everything was very well packaged, no damage, scratches or missing pieces. The assembly took a bit of time as I did it solo. Still, not terrible difficult. I suggest reading the directions before, lining things up and then attaching them. Take your time to make sure that the pieces are facing the right way. I've had not a single issue in the year plus I've been sleeping on it. It's so solid that it hadly creaks when I get into bed. I'm not a little guy either. the drawers I use to store sheets and clothes I don't wear much so I'm not using them every day. The only issue I had with them was I over stuffed one and had to refit the bottom into the grooves. SO, I highly recommend using Gorilla glue in all the joints when you assemble the drawers. One last thing...assemble this in the exact spot where you want it. It's so damn heavy once complete and you can put a ton of stress on the joints if you try to move it and the drawers can be put out of line. Over all I'm very impressed with the product, especially considering the price. I bought a "mattress in a box" from another website. It's a king, spring mattress rolled into a small box. Seriously. It's the best mattress I've ever owned. I got my king bed for well under a grand and it's amazing. (I have back issues too!)

NOT COMPATIBLE with king headboardJul 22, 2009
By vermicin We got this bed in a bundle with the king storage headboard in attempt to rid our bedroom of all extraneous furniture. Well, the headboard is very front-heavy, and you need to attach the bedframe to it for stability. So, I line them up -- and the bed is 1" too wide! So this great bed set that I spent -- 700 or so dollars on? -- needs hacksaw and dremel work to make it stable. I have the injuries to show what happens if you don't attach the headboard properly.
If you are getting JUST the bed, it's a pretty good bed. The wooden slats aren't all flat (have persistent bends), which makes assembly difficult (you don't just lay the slats on top like other beds). Some of the drawers don't end up flush against the bed, and no amount of tweaking seems to fix it. And to tweak? Well, you pretty much have to take the bed apart (a 2-hour ordeal to see if you can adjust a drawer caster -- just to adjust it and find it makes no difference).
Other than that, it's pretty solid.

Probably the worst purchase I have ever made!Jan 30, 2012
By rpaddy It takes a lot for me to give a negative rating.
But this product is really just THAT bad. The wood (if you can call if that), is mostly particle board, not even the high density ones, so expect a fair number of pieces to already be broken on arrival - if not, then expect them to break whilst you are putting it together!
My first one had MANY pieces chipped and snapped in half when it arrived, so I ordered a replacement from Amazon, and NOT to my surprise, a fair amount of different pieces were damaged in the same way! Luckily I had not shipped back the first one yet, so I was able to pick out all the unbroken pieces from the two boxes and put the platform bed together ...
Not that that helped much, as a few days later, things started falling apart! The wood start chipping. The drawers started collapsing. If you even try to move it, it bends so much, you could snap it almost instantly if you push too hard!
It does not even fit the bed properly. There is at least a good 2 inches of spare room at the bottom (or top, depending where you mattress is).
I have the headboard as well, which is not much better (but it at least has not yet fallen to pieces, but that's probably cos I have not touched it since I put it together)
I will never again buy any Prepac furniture! And I have returned everything that I have ordered from them! It's definitely a great buy if you are looking for something 'affordable', but of course, you get what you pay for.
Rather save your money and wait to purchase something of a much higher quality that will last you years and not DAYS.

No assembly instructions and crummy productSep 24, 2011
By J Kalb We live in a small space, so we don't the option of having two beds set up simultaneously. Our new mattress is arriving today, so we dismantled our current bed and carefully unpacked the frame only to find that they had sent no instructions. Apparently, this happens regularly enough that the website directs you to email them for a PDF, but their customer service is open from 7-4 M/F (a super convenient time for anyone to assemble a bed). Of course, they don't have the PDF posted on their website, so we're stuck waiting until someone checks and responds.
I wanted to update this. We finally received the instructions and were able to put the bed together. One of the wooden pieces came damaged (broken and scratched paint) and we are missing a part to assemble one of the drawers. We tried to find the missing piece at Home Depot, but it's not available, so now we're waiting again. I am SO sorry that I ordered this and would have sent it back, but for the hassle of dealing with returning such a bulky item. Please save yourself the trouble and find another bed.

Good Storage, Reasonable PriceAug 27, 2010
By M. Long
"FanTango"
You have to understand it's "assembly required" furniture when you purchase it, but it's reasonable quality and a good value for the price - and excellent storage. The drawers fit together nicely and open easily - took about 90-110 minutes to assemble (use a power screwdriver, please). It holds a heavy mattress with no problem at all and the king size fit perfectly. It was "worth the money" compared to finding additional storage when you're "looking for space" in a smaller apartment/home. Just remember - it's not "fancy" and it's not "solid wood" but it's practical, it works, and it's reasonable quality for the price! It was shipped on time, arrived all in one piece, good directions and it WORKS!
